My client are looking for an experienced News journalist with extensive media contacts in print and broadcast.

The Job
Some of the main requirements of the job include:

News & Media Relations:
The development of a proactive and news-lead media relations strategy to promote the relevance and value of the Academy's funded research, policy initiatives and fellowship.
Total running of the Academy's Press Office; dealing with requests from journalists, responding effectively to the news agenda and ensuring the right systems processes and skills are in place to monitor the media.
Management of the Academy's strategic communications grid to identify opportunities to promote the Academy and to plan it's future activities to secure maximum impact.
Providing strategic counsel on media issues to the Chief Exec and President and developing the framework for crisis communications.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Working closely with the database manager and other stakeholders ensuring that the database is well used.
Supporting and coordinating engagement.

Management & Leadership:
Line management of two members of staff.
Deputising for the Director of communication in her absence.
Overseeing the budget.

The Candidate
The main requirements of the candidate include:

A proven managerial experience within an editorial operation.
Good knowledge of the UK's Higher Education and Research Environment, and key issues facing it.
Experience of significantly raising an organisation's profile through effective media relations and stakeholder engagement.
High levels of political awareness and judgement.
A proven broad networks of contacts.
Strong experience working at a senior level within a news-driven organisation.
Journalistic writing skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Extensive media contacts in both print and broadcast, internationally would be desirable.
Managerial experience, along with managing budgets.
