As Technical Manager you will manage the technical functions, quality systems, procedures and policies at the site, ensuring finished products are safe and conform to relevant specification, legislation and customer requirements. You will be responsible for providing a central source of expertise in respect of all food safety, technical and quality issues within the business. This role would be ideal for a Food Technologist with a focus on managing raw material integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Departmental Management & Leadership
Lead the Technical Team and ensure departmental targets and service level achievement.
Provide technical leadership and coaching to all functions within the technical department to improve due diligence, site performance and continuous improvement.
Coach and mentor staff where required to improve capacity within the Technical team and wider staff team.
Coordinate Food safety training, review worker performance and liaise with departments on team members training needs
Maintain and develop effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, managers and supervisors, team members.
Contribute to the site senior team providing data and resources as required.
Ensure the department is working to effectively provide Technical support to all departments.
Development of Quality Management System
Set, improve and drive technical/quality standards across the site and to support, drive and manage the Quality Management System to ensure the business is compliant legally and with customer requirements.
To support effective operations, to deliver quality products and to meet required customer and BRC accreditation standards?
To be responsible for maintaining the company Quality standards, and future accredited standards.
To manage relationships with key customers and suppliers, including management of supplier approval, visits, audits and customer complaints
Leadership on HACCP, Health & Safety Policy
Ensure Companys Health & Safety Policy and Procedures are adhered to
Lead the HACCP team and ensure all risks are managed effectively to minimise business risks.
Liaise and maintain relationships with EHO, FSA, local government officers, external auditors, customer technical departments, buyers and suppliers as appropriate
To ensure that all production and technical manuals are kept up to date
Technical Support to the Business
Improve the Technical performance of the business reducing non-conformances and customer complaints relative to output.
Implement and report a suite of Technical KPIs to give visibility to Quality, Technical and Hygiene issues providing Technical data where required.
Provide Technical support for all capital projects.
Manage the product recall process and ensure all statutory duties are performed to ensure customer safety.
Support a culture of continuous improvement by effective use of data to identify opportunities.
To provide technical support for NPD projects and ensure new products are developed effectively
Management of product technical specifications
Supplier Approval
Check and approve raw material ingredient specifications, ensuring that suppliers have the relevant documentation.
Liaise with GM, Ops and Finance Managers for annual contracted services e.g. maintenance and forecast and control budgets for testing, calibration, pest control, waste management etc.
To ensure that there is a purchasing procedure and delegation of purchasing with the company is carried out to the set purchasing standards.
Travel to supplier and customer sites as required supporting the MD and GM.
Essential Experience
Experience of working in a food manufacturing environment
Experience and knowledge of microbiological requirements for food safety
Knowledge and ability to ensure 100% compliance with food legislation and regulations
Experience and knowledge of BRC internal audit, GMPs and KPIs
Experience of working closely with food manufacturing clients and ingredient suppliers to make sure high standards and level of satisfaction are met
Experience and knowledge of Quality and continual improvement of the procedures carried out and products.
A proven track record in product and process development
A track record of delivering Technical/Quality strategy, and engaging with, leading and developing a skilled, motivated team.
Track record of successfully delivering improvement projects within given timescales.
Qualifications
Food Science related degree or equivalent
HACCP and Food Safety Level 4 qualifications (Level 3 minimum)
Audit experience/ Lead audit qualification desirable.
