Operations & Logistics Manager - Engineering Materials Distributor

Our client, a market-leader in their sector, provide a comprehensive range of materials to a wide range of customers. They operate in key sectors of Signs, Displays & Graphics, Retail & Commercial Interiors, Industrial & Engineering, and Building & Construction.

We are looking for an experienced Operations & Logistics Manager to lead their established team at their growing and evolving operation in Basildon.

This role is crucial to ensure the further growth of the business. We are looking for someone ideally with experience of managing change within this type of environment. The business currently operates a standard 8.00am - 5.30pm working day and in order to maintain their competitive advantage, they will be changing this operation. The business will begin to operate outside of these traditional hours, extra delivery vehicles will be utilised and even more emphasis will be placed on providing outstanding service. You will be part of the wider vision for the business as well as being hands-on as required.

Having a strong understanding of logistics and not just purely warehousing is essential in this role as this element of the operation is core to the success of the role and its impact on the wider business.

Responsibilities

As the Logistics & Warehouse Manager you will:

* Manage the space of a busy 27,000sq ft warehouse
* Be a key part of the management team, designing and implementing new improved ways of working and paying close attention to every aspect of the operation
* Have responsibility and autonomy for managing the budget and finances for the logistics & warehousing operation
* Lead a strong and established team of warehouse operatives, sawyers and drivers
* Supervise the day to day running of all aspects of the warehouse, conversion and delivery operations in line with company procedures
* Ensure that all goods received and dispatched have been checked, in line with standard operating procedures
* Ensure that all machinery and vehicles, i.e. delivery vehicles, cutting machines, pallet and forklift trucks are maintained correctly
* Ensure that all deliveries are made on time and that the most effective transportation methods are utilised
* Manage monthly and annual stocktakes and ensure accurate inventory
* Ensure that all staff operating within the logistics & warehousing area are conforming to all HSE and PPE rules and regulations
* Ensure that the building and environment is maintained to a high standard and the warehouse is kept clean and tidy at all times

Requirements

You should be a strong leader who is:

* Experienced in managing a warehouse & logistics operation, along with a medium-sized team
* Confident and ideally experienced in driving change
* A decisive manager
* Assertive, focussed and driven to improve and innovate working practices and processes
* A quick learner with a stable career history
* Ideally from a similar environment and with at least 3 years' experience
* A forklift license and CPC is desirable but not essential
