Data Modeller is required for a major Insurance company, this is a fantastic time to join this well established and well known company who are looking to double it`s customer base by 2020. You`ll be a key hire in the process of making this happen with regard to improving technology so you`ll see the business grow as a result of your actions.
As Data Modeller you will be responsible for strategic projects focused on Data Modelling, Data Dictionary and Data Lineage Management in traditional as well as NoSQL environments.
Data Modeller duties:
- With the business working hard to turn their huge customer base`s pension savings into lifelong retirement incomes you will analyse current data models and future design documents to establish the data modelling approach.
- Working with the key business representatives, data owners, end-users, solution designers and data architects to establish data structures to address these requirements, you will create & maintain the data models using formal modelling notification along with a range of related documentation. Documentation includes dataflow diagrams, source to target mapping, conversion logic, business definitions etc. and ensure appropriate approvals are granted.
- You will own data related test cases and scripts that correspond to business requirements as an input to test planning and have good opportunities to work & interact with senior leadership, the wider business and IT team as required.
- As well as ensuring key data aspects of the project are appropriately understood by various stakeholders, you will maintain lineage and the data dictionary continuously as modifications and enhancements are made.
- Keeping a close eye on competitors, you will regularly assess industry best practice against internal methodology and introduce enhancements when required.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
- Significant experience of Data Modelling in support of Data Warehouse, BI, Data Analytics, Metadata and complex Data Migration solutions including analysing source systems, reconciliation and DQ issues.
- Ideally significant exposure to both relational and NoSQL design methodologies.
- Must have knowledge of insurance industry with knowledge of retirements being a bonus.
- Experience of supporting the creation and maintenance of Data Dictionary
- Good experience in query and reporting tools, such as Business Objects or data discovery tools such as QlikView and Tableau
- A keen interest in staying up-to-date and learning new skills
- Experience of data governance.
Beneficial Skills:
- Strong writing and documentation skills
- Experience of using Power Designer or a similar tool.
- Good personal and communication skills
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word
- Writing/executing ETL, Profiling and Data Quality tools.
- Experience in facilitating and hosting workshops and focus groups with SMEs and senior stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Degree qualification is preferred but not essential.
