The client based in a village location is seeking a number of laboratory technicians to work a rotating shift pattern.(Full details below).

The role will require you carry out laboratory work (tests, preparations or other experimental work) as directed by the QC Laboratory Supervisor.

To be considered for the booking ideally you should have experience of working within a production or laboratory environment.
It is important that you have good communication skills (written and verbal), possess GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
You need to be IT literate and able to follow detailed instructions accurately.

Shift Pattern
Depending which laboratory you work in the shift starts at 06.00 or 18.00hrs or 07.00 or 19.00hrs and rotate as follows:-
5 shift work 4 days, then 3 off, 3 nights then 8 off, 3 days then 3 off, 4 nights then 7 off. 12 hour shifts including Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.
4 shift work 4 nights then 5 off, 2 days then 1 off, 2 nights then 5 off, 4 days then 5 off. 12 hour shifts including Saturdays and bank holidays.
The basic hourly rate ranges from approximately £11.00 to £13.00 shift allowance and weekend premiums.

The tasks will be to :-
Carry out laboratory work (tests, preparations or other experimental work) as directed by the QC Laboratory Supervisor.

Keep suitable legible written records of work in line with local procedures and accreditation requirements.

To ensure that the relevant safety requirements are satisfied.

To ensure all areas of the laboratory are in a clean and tidy condition in accordance with site 5S and FOD requirements.

To maintain and improve practical, technical and theoretical knowledge in the techniques required for assigned programmes of work.

To assist as required in discussions and demonstrations to customers, visitors and other staff.

Assist in the training of new laboratory staff (where appropriate and directed).

To ensure laboratory stocks of equipment, chemicals and other materials relevant to the testing procedures are maintained.

The role will require you to plan, organize and control your daily work and be responsible for sample selection and organize the work to maximise the efficient use of shared / common equipment with other departments.

Be responsible for ensuring batches are selected in accordance with documented procedure ensuring completion of testing in good time of expectation.

Be responsible for monitoring and replenishing stocks of consumable items, including safety items, ensuring constant stock availability i.e. ordering replenishment in good time.

You will need to highlight and discuss any problems, results and or testing techniques with QC Laboratory Supervision or Quality Manager.

To carry out practical demonstrations of testing techniques, to customers/auditors/visitors or during regulatory/internal audits as required.

You need to work effectively as part of a team and be able to liaise with other members to ensure cover is available and issues of a technical nature are passed on.

The major challenges of the booking will require:

Planning and organising daily work so as to provide a fast, accurate and efficient service, meeting all targets.

Being vigilant in observing deviations and abnormalities in the products being prepared and tested.

Being alert to ways of improving working methods so as to improve efficiency and suggesting methods of improvement to QC Supervision and the Quality Manager
