We are looking for a Technical Author to write, produce and maintain equipment documentation for end users, service / support and training purposes for a company based in Royston.
Responsibilities
* Write user and technical manuals for X-ray machines. Technical content of the documentation will include mechanical, electrical, electronic and software attributes. It will also include but not be limited to safety and regulatory information and maintenance and cleaning information
* Work closely with the new product development team to understand forthcoming new features and functions and create, revise, or update existing documentation accordingly
* Gain full knowledge of how to operate the X-ray systems in order to write accurate documentation that users and service technicians will understand
* Work closely with and assist the training department to ensure wording, phrasing and instructions are aligned with training materials in order to provide clear uniform messaging
* Liaise with the Compliance Officer to ensure safety and regulatory statements contained in the documentation are kept up to date
* Work together with the Project Management team to ensure all custom machines have suitable additional documentation created which explains use, maintenance and cleaning of any non-standard requested features
* Manage process to ensure correct documentation is provided for each machine prior to shipping
* Co-ordinate translation of documentation through a third party translation agency
* Maintain the documentation library and version control
* Ensure appropriate parts of the business (e.g. Service Technicians) have easy access to the latest documentation via internal online systems
* Participate in divisional Technical Author Working Group meetings to ensure terminology, writing and design styles are developed and followed
Requirements
* At least three years authoring experience in a technical environment
* Qualified to degree or HND level (or equivalent) in a technical discipline, ideally with further educational qualifications in authoring
* Outstanding written English skills (spelling and grammar)
* Experience of software controlled systems / machinery would be of benefit
* Some mechanical hands-on skills are also desirable
* Excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, organised and capable of multitasking within the discipline
* Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and ideally SCHEMA.
* Focus consistently on delivery. Escalate appropriately to resolve issues.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to interface multiple parts of the business internally
* Awareness of Quality systems (e.g. ISO 9001)
* Creativity and enthusiasm.
* Passionate attention to detail.
* The ability to work to tight deadlines.
Occasional travel within the UK and overseas may be required for this role
