As a Senior Engineer, you will play an important role in the design and delivery of highway projects. Your main responsibility will be leading a design team in the technical delivery of highway geometric designs or highway drainage designs.

A key client is Highways England and a good understanding of their design standards and project management procedures will be an important part of the role.

You will be required to work in both supervised and unsupervised environments and ensure that the technical content of your team's work carried out is correct and in accordance with the agreed scope of work, timescales and budgets.

You will also provide guidance to other Engineers and Technicians within the team and will be given the opportunities and support to develop your career and achieve your ambitions within this forward thinking company.

Core duties and responsibilities:

Technical
Carry out design development and produce feasibility, preliminary and detailed design deliverables that meet client needs and expectations whilst also considering the implications on safety and the environment.

Ensure company's IMS, relevant design standards, guidance and legislation are followed or obtain relevant approval not to do so.

Provide technical guidance and mentor the individuals to facilitate a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

Project Start-up, Delivery and Close-out
Act as discipline team leader to ensure the effective planning and delivery of work packages within agreed timescales and budget. This includes providing inputs to, and implementing the requirements of, the Project Management Plan and other and company IMS procedures.

Contribute to the preparation of project and other company monthly reports and work with the management team on operational issues to achieve strategy objectives and assist in the preparation of cost estimates and financial management of projects.

Business Development
Input into the preparation of PQQs and Tenders as required and recognise opportunities for cross-selling to current clients. Provide support to the management of commissions and help realise opportunities across the business whilst providing a high level of service.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Technical
·ability to undertake in accordance with DMRB: ohighway geometric design using Bentley MX or ohighway drainage design using MicroDrainage and desirably AutoDesk Civils 3D
·ability to carry out relevant design duties required under the current H&S and environmental legislation
·ability in preparing design reports and drawings using relevant design software packages
·experience in the design of pedestrian, cycle and equestrian routes and facilities
·experience in the design of highway ancillaries (e.g. fencing, road restraint, traffic signs and road markings) in accordance with the relevant UK design standards and using relevant design software packages
·experience in preparing Departures from Standards
·experience in preparing specifications and bills of quantities using MCHW
·experience in preparation of temporary and permanent Traffic Regulation Orders
·experience in preparing Highways England's technical PCF products
·knowledge of BIM

Project Delivery
·knowledge on the planning and delivery of major and minor highway schemes
·ability to plan and deliver work packages or minor schemes to agreed deadlines and budgets
·experience on the preparation of contract documents and tender process
·experience with the administration of contracts
·experience with preparation of budgets, monitoring and reporting
·experience of complying with quality management systems and financial management systems
·knowledge of resource management procedures.

Professional Membership and Qualifications:
·Recognised degree in Civil Engineering
·Membership of appropriate professional body and be registered with the Engineering Council as either a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
