Mechanical Design Engineer
Exciting new Permanent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Weybridge.
Following a recent expansion, our leading Defence & Aerospace client is currently looking to expand their team in Stevenage with an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer.
Core/Key Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for 1) the design and development of the company products, 2) assisting in leading the corresponding design engineering team and 3) assisting the project management department in the successful delivery of these products.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be tasked with:
* Design concept generation/design direction
* Design reviews - maintain design action logs to support/minute design reviews
* Design/drawing checking
* Ad-hoc design guidance
* Engineering Change review and checking
* Ensure you and the Design Engineers work to company design/drawing guidelines and best practice CAD modelling
* Detailed understanding of international standards regarding design/general engineering/defence relevant to each product (there will be the opportunity to learn specialist knowledge on-the-job)
* Liaising with Engineering Test and Analysis Departments to ensure that they fully understand the product design and function
* Liaising with Purchasing and Workshop Departments; record and deal with issues arising from the prototype process
* Project :
* Timing plans - assist in producing detailed timing plans and internal milestones to support customer/project milestones in conjunction with Project Manager
* Customer liaison
* Detailed understanding of technical requirements and ensure compliance
* Creation/review/maintenance/checking of project documents, design review presentations etc.
* Presentation of design reviews with customers
* Work closely with the Lead Design Engineer and the Engineering Resource Manager regarding the order, hours, duration and resource allocation of tasks
Duties also include:
* Review of customer technical requirements
* Estimating hours/contributing to timing plans
* Initial top-level concept design
* Contract support:
* Assessing technical impacts of change requests for existing projects
* Estimating hours and schedule impact for change requests
* Group Companies :
* Liaison with the company Group Companies Engineering Departments
* Support the company Group Companies Design/Production activities as required
* To understand and comply with Company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, ISO9001, ISO14001.
Qualifications and Experience
* Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent
* Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered Engineer status (preferred)
* Automotive/Aerospace/Defence Engineering environments (preferred)
* Knowledge of seating systems and considerations, e.g. comfort, ergonomics, packaging, etc. (preferred)
* Design/manufacturing techniques for low/medium volume production
* Concept creation/development, detailed design (components/assemblies), and engineering drawing - at least 5 years' experience
* Creating models and engineering drawings using 3D CAD package (SolidWorks preferred)
* Material Selection
* Structural performance assessment
* Knowledge of workshop theory and practice
* People management
Other
* Eligible for UK Security Clearance to minimum SC ('Secret') level.
* Willing to travel in UK and internationally as required.
